The connection between exercise and living organized

exercise living organized Sep 28, 2016

Well, I am not a fitness expert I am an expert in helping people live more organized lives. One thing I’ve noticed is that most of my clients lack some sort of exercise program. When I started on my organizing journey one of things that sustained me was my workout.  I want to show you why there is a direct correlation between the two.

Benefits of working out:

1.    Clarity of thought

2.    Positive energy

3.    Improves physical ability

4.    Reverses the effects of stress

5.    Builds self esteem

These are some of the bigger benefits. Of course, there are many more but I want to make that connection between exercise and living organize for you.

1.    Clarity of thought

Studies have told us that even mild physical activity helps keep our brains fit.

How does this lead to living an organized life?

Clear thinking leads to better decision making. This is everything from how we spend our time, what we need to accomplish each day to what we eat and what we buy. Do I need to buy that new blouse? or Do I just want to buy it? Do I need 3 pair of shoes the same color? or Do I just buy them anyway because I want them?

2. Positive Energy

You have to use energy to get more energy. It’s a known fact!

How does this lead to an organized life?

With the extra energy you can tackle the clutter in your home or office. The size of the job won’t deter you. It starts simply with one 15 minute project at a time.

3. Improves physical ability

Working out allows us to gain strength & flexibility which means less aches and pains!!

How does this lead to an organized life?

Being physically able to tackle the purging of the summer clothes out of the closet without waiting for someone else to come and help. Also, you’re better able to put things away when you are done with them. (This is how we prevent clutter from developing in the first place!)

4. Reverses the effects of stress

Increased serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine levels in the brain lead to a brain that is calm.

How does this lead to an organized life?

Less stress leads to less impulsive decisions relating to emotion. If you equate shopping to the mood you are in, this is going to be really helpful to you. Your high will come from your endorphins and not your latest purchase! Limiting your shopping to after a workout will not only save you $ but prevent buyer’s remorse you will have later.

5. Builds self-esteem

Feeling good about yourself can improve ALL areas of your life!!

How does this lead to an organized life?

We know we are more than just our “things” so it is not necessary for us to hang on to so much “stuff”. Understanding there is a real value on our personal being can also eliminate that urge to self-sabotage.

Now you know what exercise has to do with living more organized. I like to believe that when we know better we do better. Today, you must decide what your workout will be.

If you’ve never worked out before, START SLOW! I can’t stress that enough….something as simple as a walk is a great place to begin. For those who’ve fallen off the exercise wagon, GET BACK ON!! You have new found motivation to work out!
