Three Reasons NOW is the Time to Get Organized

Uncategorized Apr 11, 2025

The goal of this blog is to help you get organized. Instead of future thinking, we are focusing on the present, now. Now, is not a wishful fantasy. It is what we have at this very moment. Now is also a clear and realistic measure to create accountability. I can’t be held accountable for something I might never do in the future. I have three reasons you need to get organized now.

The first reason is that later may never come. There are a plethora of reasons for this and some may say those are excuses. This is a reality check for those living in the land of later. Time has not been helpful to you thus far and there’s little reason to suspect it will be in the future. This has become evident in working with older clients in my professional organizing business. Many of these wonderful people were going to get organized when they retired twenty years ago. Now, they are facing the fact that the stuff they have may be left behind for others to deal with. This is a harsh reality because no one will love your stuff like you do. It’s good to find people you know will love it now. Sometimes, items we treasure don’t stand the test of time and it becomes more likely they will end up in the trash rather than a shelf.

“Whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.” - Michael Landon

The second reason now is the time is because it won’t get any easier if you wait. Most of the time, it gets harder. It becomes harder to remember, harder to physically do the task and harder to part with things. When you allow yourself to be in the present, you think in the present which lends itself to very different decision making. There is tremendous freedom in this type of decision making.

“You can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good.” - attributed to Jerry West

The last reason I’d like to give you for getting organized now is to be able to experience how much better your life will become. A sense of accomplishment can really lift you up. I know this can have a carryover  effect for other areas of your life-spiritually, mentally and physically. Organized living opens the door to see things with a fresh perspective.

“A year from now you may wish you had started today.” - Karen Lamb

There you have it, three exceptionally good reasons to get organized now, as in today. After you finish reading this, find one small area to declutter and this should take no more than fifteen minutes. Once you are done with this, give yourself a pat on the back and notice how good it feels. You are on your way to being organized today.

** Just a word of caution, it’s contagious! You will notice clutter in places you never saw it before and this is a very good thing.
