Summer Olympics inspire Organizing

Patriotism and inspiration are in the air….

I was watching the Olympics with my family last night, which truly inspires me. I feel like I can achieve ANYTHING when I see the athletes push through to do their very best. Don’t you? Well, this got me thinking….what if we were to think of our homes as an Olympic venue? What if we could host at least 5-10 events in a 2 week period just like the Olympic

What would that look like?

For me, it would look something like this…

Sprinting through lots of 15 minute projects

This is a good place to start unless you are an expert.

By tackling one or more of these a day you’ll be in shape like an athlete!

-dresser drawers

-junk drawers

-spice cabinet

-medicine cabinet

-cupboards ( 1 at a time)

-bookcase

What you want to look for is anything expired, no longer wanted, no longer useful or you just don’t want it. Then you want to make the space more functional for YOU. You may add organizing accessories once you are finished.

Marathon Organizing of the Worst area of your house( for me it’s the garage!!!!!)

-it’s going to take awhile perhaps the whole day

-working for hours with water breaks

-lifting heavy objects

-breaking a sweat

-pushing through when you’re tired because it’s the Olympics

-listening to people cheer you on along the course (if you don’t have any people, put on some music!)

On to the next event….

Wrestling through overstuffed closets

This is really a break from the marathon but it needs to get done as well. In this event, you will determine what fits, what you no longer wear by emptying the closet. Make sure to create a pile for what you want to keep, throw away and donate. One of the things I would encourage you to do is determine what the closet will be used for. Many of us have the “multi-purpose” closets that can’t help being disorganized.

By now, I hope I have inspired you to climb out of the disorganization pattern like a gymnast on the uneven bars. It would be really awesome if  you are no longer swimming in a lot of “STUFF” like the Olympic swimming pool. Sometimes, the organizing process can be a little like chasing the ball in soccer. You work really hard to get everything cleaned out only to have someone put some of it back. Please don’t be discouraged a little backsliding is a good thing like swimming the backstroke in the finals to win a gold medal!  When you have finished you can proudly wave your flag through your newly organized spaces. God Bless!

there as well!

Please feel free to email me your before/after pics at [email protected] and I will post them to my website. You can be an inspiration to others.
