It's that time of year as a parent when you say, "I don't have enough hoursin the day!" It's all about going here and going there until you drag your tired self home and fall into bed. It can seem endless, one day blurring into the next. I am hearing this a lot right now with all of the children's activities and end of the school year fast approaching. Sometimes, you just feel like yelling, "Stop the world I want to get off!"
What is it that can be done to make this time of year be less chaotic??
1. The first thing you can do is determine YOUR priorities. From this point on it becomes PRIORITIES FIRST as your mantra. Take the time to decide on your top 3. The additional things on your list move to the back up list and can be prioritized as well.
2. Be realistic with your time. This means you have to stop underestimating and move into an overestimating mindset. This will require practice but I can tell you from first hand experience it has saved my behind numerous times. This type of thinking provides you with much needed breathing room lessening the chaos.
3. Learn to politely decline. You can't do it all! I've been there with this superhero thinking and it doesn't end well. I've learned to nicely decline when my plate is too full to take on another thing. Let me give you an example, "This project sounds fantastic Sue, thank you for thinking of me but at this time I am unable to participate." Doesn't that sound nice? The first time I used it the person didn't know how to respond because it was the nicest decline she had ever heard!
4. Determine your daily 3. This is super important because it keeps you from slipping back into running a chaotic schedule. You must identify your 3 must do's, have to do's. These are YOUR priorities! Focus on these 3 until complete. If you complete them then you can choose something else on your list. Your productivity will dramatically improve along with your mental clarity. It's all about the FOCUS.
Making changes in limiting chaos in your life is really the best thing you can do for yourself. It will make you healthier, happier and more organized.
