It’s all about the system….

Uncategorized Feb 12, 2017

I have been sick for the last 3 weeks, some days I’ve been more functional than others.

The nasty sinus infection that just wouldn’t leave had really taken a toll on my body. Living with a  foggy head made it tough to be on my “A” game which is what I must be every single day as a wife, mom and business owner. Good thing I have systems in place so I don’t have to worry about it so much.

My family stepped up and proved themselves quite helpful. They followed the systems and life ran smoothly around the Illig house.

Do you have a system in your home? You probably do and really didn’t think about it in that sense.

I’ll share with you some of the systems in place in our home….

1.    A schedule-it’s an outline how the day could go if everything goes as planned. It starts with waking up and goes to bedtime. I make sure we build in time for the unexpected as best we can. Even if the unexpected happens just having a schedule allows us to cope with it in a less stressful way.

2.    Menu- this is what made it easy for my children to get fed when I was in bed and my husband at work. The food I buy for the week works with the menu

3.    Kitchen familiarity- keeping my  family involved. Letting them see where I put the pots and pans, spices or anything else eliminates the question, where is ____? I like to  Incorporate their help on a regular basis with putting things away and making parts of the meal. This really gives them confidence to do it on their own. Plus, they see me model the behavior which sets the expectation for them.

4.    The calendar- this allows everyone to know where everyone is on any given day. It is a must have for our family!

5.    Chore list- everyone does their share. This way I don’t come back from the sinus abyss to a real mess! The kids love the structure, don’t let them tell you they don’t. My children especially love to say, it’s not my chore, it’s the other child’s. I love that I don’t have to nag to get things done!

Not that I’ve enjoyed being out of commission but I have really liked being able to watch my kids learn responsibility in carrying out the daily activities that make our home run smoothly. This gave me a real peace of mind in knowing they will be capable men one day.

My systems may not seem fancy to you but they are indeed  systems of organization. They create order and structure. They are consistent which allows everyone to follow them with ease.

For me and my house, we like to have order.
