I need a moment

Uncategorized Feb 12, 2021

It happens to the best of us. We have the best intentions but cannot seem to move forward into the action phase. Old habits we tried to break have reared their ugly heads. The system of organizing that was making life better has gone haywire. It is time to regroup.

I like to think of regrouping as a chance to do over and do better. Recognizing the need to reset is critical to ensuring success. This is awareness! Awareness leads to action.

When you become aware then you can make adjustments. If you don’t know, you can’t do better. Awareness leads to action.

When you become aware you have a better chance of being proactive rather than reactive. It’s about knowing your triggers. What is it about your personality that can lead you back to bad habits or distract you? For me, it’s likely to happen when I am tired or busy. I am aware of it so I try to get the most important things done when I am fresh, earlier in the day. Awareness leads to action.

Becoming aware will make you less likely to give up. You can easily move on past the voice that tells you to “stop”. The excuses no longer work because awareness leads to action.

Here are three ways to get back on track:

  1. Pause

Pausing triggers the brain to stop, interrupting the message it’s sending. Take a step back or a couple of slow, deep breaths or just close your eyes. Use what works for you. You could even walk away for a moment and come back with a fresh perspective.

  1. Reflect for a moment

A quick reevaluation of what is working v what isn’t is a productive tool. The key to this is to not dwell here. Get in and get out!!

  1. Choose your thing

What will resonate within you to reset? is it music( a theme song), a word, or a phrase? It can be silly or serious. For real, “squirrel” is what I say when I feel myself running into different directions without completing anything!! This comes from the movie, Over the Hedge. Do you remember it? It has a squirrel named, Hammy who runs all over the place looking for nuts!

I cannot stress enough that beating yourself up will not serve you! The regroup process is a productive way to get back on track. It may take a little to have this as your first thought when all is gone haywire. Post it somewhere you can easily be reminded or make it your wall paper screen on your phone. Sometimes we have to do things differently if we would like different results.
