Don’t let the moment slip away…

Uncategorized May 08, 2023

Life is busy, days fly by, and suddenly you realize you missed it (whatever “it” is for you.) This is all due to a lack of presence or being present in the moment. Once the moment is gone, we can never get it back. In a time of focus right here and right now, we can truly experience whatever we are doing even if it’s just thinking. Each moment can be a treasure for us if we take the time to recognize it . Becoming aware can facilitate order in our day, the crux of living organized.

Reasons you need to be focused in the moment:

  • Better ability to complete actions in a way that is of tremendous quality
  • Better attention to detail so things are not forgotten
  • More happiness because there is not worry about what will happen next
  • Allow for better engagement in all you do
  • Much easier to find balance in everyday life

“If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.”  – Lao Tzu

How can you be more present? Try implementing these strategies. There will be a practice period so give yourself grace as you work through them.

  • Eliminate distraction. Turn off or get away from your known distractors. Is it the phone, tv, child, or your living space? It’s okay to take a break for those distractions. They will be there when you are done.
  • Practice purposeful quiet. This is just sitting in the moment for a few minutes to feel all the things and think all of the thoughts. With practice you will get this, so start out with five minute, and work yourself up to at least fifteen minutes. It's hard, so don’t give up- reset and try again. Creating awareness is powerful. Recognize the temptation and find a word or phrase that will jolt you back to the present.

When you finish, take note of yourself. Is there peace within you?  Was it easy? What words describe you after taking this time? Are you looking forward to the next time? Take a moment and write down what you were able to gain from this time. Take note of any improvements you notice in your daily living. Is your day more intentional? Do you feel less rushed?

The organizing journey can open many doors of improvement, it takes a little extra effort to get started. Hang in there and keep trying.
