Thoughts to Conquer Clutter

This is a very different blog than what I usually write. This is going to give you some
feelings, not sure what type. In creating a life that is organized, there are things to think
about and this is what I am sharing.
EMPTY THE HOUSE
Imagine if you were challenged to empty all of the contents out of your house into your front yard.
- How would you feel about the amount of stuff you have?
- Would you to decide to bring less back in the house
SPENDING FREEZE
What if you took an entire year and only bought what you need (food, clothing and fuel)?
- Does the thought of this trigger any feelings?
- What does this say about your spending habits?
- Could you implement something like this on a smaller scale ( maybe freeze spending
for one month?)
HOBBY HOG
A hobby can be wonderful for many reasons. Isn’t it incredible to see how much stuff comes with a hobby
- Evaluate how much time you really devote to your hobby
- How many hobbies do you have?
- If you have more than one, how much time and money do you spend monthly? yearly?
- What does the hobby take the place of?
- Could you involve a hobby that doesn’t involve stuff?
LUXURY LAZINESS
Do you love luxuries? What is a luxury to you? Is it based on convenience, cost or both?
- If the power goes out( you don’t own a generator), how do you feel?
- When you travel, do you overpack so that you have all of the comforts of home?
- If you run out of _______, does it affect you so much that it ruins your mood?
- Could you take a break for 2 weeks from one of your luxuries?
- Which luxury would you take a break from?
CAN’T LET GO
Letting go of stuff can be pretty difficult when you don’t have the right mindset. It’s as if the brain is stuck.
- Do you know why this is hard for you?
- What would your home look like if you could let go of things you’ve been holding
onto?
- Would it be helpful to have a Therapist help you walk through this?
- Would you find one item you could let go of today?( It could be donated, given to someone you know or thrown in the trash)
STUCK IN TIME
Is it impossible for you to be on time?
- Are you late more than 50 % of the time?
- Do you find last minute things to do when it’s time to leave?
- Have people in your life been upset with you over this?
- Do you find yourself looking for key items such as the keys or shoes when you should
already be out the door?
There is no judgement in any of this. However, it is good to reflect on these areas to create an organized life. Small steps can yield big gains. Anywhere you can make a small change will make a positive impact on the path to conquer clutter.
