A trip down the organized memory lane

Uncategorized Sep 07, 2016

Each year when my children go back to school it takes me back too. Not only do I go back to where my children were the year before but I also take myself back to my days in school. Not college, goodness couldn’t do that to myself again! I like going back to the K-12 years.

For me, it was all about what new outfit was I going to wear and the squeaky shoes on the newly waxed floors of the school. There is always that buzz of excitement when you realize who your teachers are. It’s almost electric!!! I really like new school supplies. There is just something about the untouched points on the crayons along with the brand new erasers on the pencils. Then there’s all of the blank pages in my notebooks just waiting for me to write all of my answers and thoughts into. Just writing this takes me back!

Now, I have 2 boys left at home and they could care less about all of that! They do like me to help them organize their binders with the tab dividers. For me, back to school now means getting my children organized. I don’t remember this ever being a problem for me. I remember having the Trapper Keeper and as an organizer I can tell you that is the PERFECT organizing tool for school even today! When my youngest was in 5th grade it was required.  All things in one place, it’s a dream for your disorganized child. Tab dividers in a binder are also nice but the keeper is the way to go. I don’t understand why more teachers don’t require them. When you bring it home you have every subject at your fingertips so there is no more forgotten work in school.  I do get that the teachers who do notebook checks aren’t  big fans of them for the sheer bulkiness of them. Maybe there is some way they could do that differently. By far, it is the best organizing tool I’ve ever seen. It works for all organizing types. I find that disorganized children love them.

I have spent a fortune on 1 inch binders with tab dividers for the 2 children I still have in school in addition to composition books.  By the end of the first semester they look rough and I start the crusade to preserve them to last until the end of the school year. They take up so much room in their backpacks and lockers, it’s a shame. That’s it,  I need to take up the cause to mandate the trapper keeper… are you with me????
